Terms & License
Terms for using Soundproof.
Last updated July 2, 2026
These Terms & License ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Aristocoded LLC ("Aristocoded," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of Soundproof, the Soundproof website, and related support.
By downloading, installing, purchasing, or using Soundproof, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Soundproof.
1. What Soundproof does
Soundproof is a Mac utility for reducing steady background noise in spoken-word audio and video recordings. It is designed for noise such as fan noise, air conditioning, hum, hiss, and steady room tone. It does not guarantee removal of background voices, echo, room reverb, music bleed, sudden noises, or every noise type.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction, to use Soundproof. By using Soundproof, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.
3. License to use Soundproof
Subject to these Terms and any applicable purchase terms, Aristocoded grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Soundproof on Macs you own or control for your own personal or internal business use.
You may not:
- copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract Soundproof source code, except where this restriction is prohibited by law, or to the extent such activity is expressly permitted for a third-party open-source component under Section 10 by its own license (for example, the LGPL-licensed components identified there);
- rent, lease, sell, sublicense, redistribute, or commercially host Soundproof for others;
- circumvent licensing, entitlement checks, export limits, security features, or usage limits;
- use Soundproof in a way that violates applicable law or infringes anyone's rights.
4. Trial, purchase, and activation
The free version of Soundproof lets you test cleanup on your own recordings before buying. A paid Soundproof Lifetime license unlocks the paid features described at the time of purchase, such as unlimited exports, batch export, cleaned video export, and additional audio formats.
Purchases may be processed by third-party checkout, payment, merchant-of-record, and entitlement providers. Those providers may apply their own checkout terms, fraud-prevention checks, tax collection, and billing policies. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
Activation, purchase verification, and restore-purchase flows may require an internet connection. Soundproof may cache entitlement status for offline use after activation, but we do not guarantee indefinite offline license verification.
5. Lifetime license
"Lifetime" means access to the paid Soundproof features for the commercially supported lifetime of the Soundproof app, subject to these Terms. It does not mean your lifetime, our lifetime, or a promise that the app will be maintained forever on all future versions of macOS or hardware.
6. Refunds
Soundproof is try-before-you-buy. If you purchase Soundproof and it does not clean your recordings, email [email protected] within 14 days of purchase. Include the purchase email or receipt information needed to locate the transaction. Refunds may be processed by the payment provider and may be subject to provider rules, fraud checks, and applicable law.
7. Your files and backups
You retain ownership of the recordings and files you use with Soundproof. You are responsible for making backups of important recordings before processing or exporting. Soundproof is designed not to overwrite source files, but software, storage devices, and operating systems can fail.
If you choose to share a recording, exported file, support attachment, backup, or screen recording, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to do so and that it does not expose sensitive information you did not intend to share.
8. Privacy
Your use of Soundproof is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what stays local, what limited information may be processed for purchases and support, and how to contact us about privacy requests.
9. Intellectual property
Soundproof, including its software, design, text, graphics, icons, models, workflows, name, and marks, is owned by Aristocoded or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our names, logos, or branding except as necessary to identify the app truthfully.
10. Third-party components and services
Soundproof may include or interact with third-party software, libraries, codecs, operating-system services, payment providers, entitlement providers, and hosting providers. Those components and services may be subject to their own terms and licenses. Aristocoded is not responsible for third-party services outside our control.
Soundproof's on-device audio processing uses the following open-source components:
- SoLoud (via the
flutter_soloudplugin) — audio engine, zlib/libpng license and MIT. - ONNX Runtime — MIT license.
- FFmpeg — LGPL v2.1 or later (this build includes no GPL-only components), dynamically linked. Source: ffmpeg.org. License text: gnu.org/licenses/lgpl-2.1.
- FFmpegKit (Flutter plugin used to run FFmpeg) — github.com/sk3llo/ffmpeg_kit_flutter, LGPL v3, dynamically linked. License text: gnu.org/licenses/lgpl-3.0.
11. Changes to Soundproof
We may modify, update, suspend, or discontinue features of Soundproof over time. We may also stop supporting older app versions, macOS versions, or hardware where continued support is impractical, insecure, or commercially unreasonable.
12. Termination
You may stop using Soundproof and uninstall it at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to paid features if you violate these Terms, misuse licensing, commit fraud, or use Soundproof unlawfully. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Soundproof is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, or error-free results.
We do not warrant that Soundproof will remove all noise, improve every recording, preserve subjective audio quality in every case, meet a broadcast standard, or be suitable for legal, medical, archival, forensic, emergency, or other high-stakes use.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aristocoded and its members, officers, employees, contractors, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, corrupted files, business interruption, or loss of goodwill arising out of or related to Soundproof.
To the extent liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to Soundproof is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Soundproof in the 12 months before the claim or US$20. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Aristocoded and its members, officers, employees, contractors, and agents from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses arising out of your misuse of Soundproof, your violation of these Terms, your violation of law, or your infringement of third-party rights.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or Soundproof will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in or serving Sheridan, Wyoming, except where applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
17. App Store terms
If Soundproof is later distributed through the Apple App Store or Mac App Store, Apple's terms and the standard Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement may also apply to that version. Where required, Apple and its subsidiaries may be third-party beneficiaries of terms applicable to App Store distribution.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide notice on the website or in the app. Your continued use of Soundproof after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
